This web page shows some downsides I found in software packages. Each of them, on their own, can cause major troubles to newbies trying to use the software. For more experienced people they spoil the fun using the software and often cause headaches. Some issues may exist by incident, some may be caused by policy of the software author. As soon as an issue is gone to my knowledge, it will be striked out from this website. Known workarounds will be listed too, as long as they are required.

Doesn't support arrow keys (by default)

Often the command ':set nocompatible' is required inside '~/.vimrc' to make the arrow keys work, especially if using SSH-connections (and for example Putty).

'vi' is an editor that is available on (almost) any and all Linux distribution, as opposed to 'pico' or 'nano'. It is hard to use as it is already although that's possible to learn, but it gets almost impossible to learn if even the keyboard input and shell output start acting different from the documented ways.
